Australians are being urged to eat better and become more active in the fight against obesity and type 2 diabetes. Over 60 per cent of Australians are classed as either overweight or obese.
Research tells us that carrying too much weight can increase your risk of health problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Estimates say 80 to 90 per cent of people who are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are overweight or obese. Having these risk factors may mean you need to check if you have pre-diabetes.
Lifestyle changes such as healthy eating and becoming more physically active can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes, especially if it is caught in the pre-diabetes stage. Learn more about pre-diabetes here.
