Diabetes Australia-NSW regularly reviews and initiates strategies to ensure that all people affected by diabetes have access to comprehensive diabetes education and support.
We value the vital role of the health care team in helping people manage their diabetes. We aim to provide health professionals with encouragement and support in their role as important sources of information, motivation and support for their clients.
Professional Partner Program
We produce a wide range of resources and conduct and participate in events throughout the year to help keep you up-to-date with the latest developments in all areas of diabetes. We also offer membership for health professionals which provides numerous benefits.
Type 2 Diabetes Group Education Program
People with type 2 diabetes can improve their management with a new education program being offered at Diabetes Australia-NSW.
Patients must be referred by their General Practitioner to access the Medicare-funded program. Click for more information.

Pre-diabetes
Diabetes Australia’s awareness campaign 'Pre-diabetes. Act Now!' encourages Australians to take healthy steps to reduce the risks of type 2 diabetes. To support the campaign, important medical and lifestyle management data is available to help identify and manage pre-diabetes. The information also includes the downloadable NHMRC approved Diabetes Diagnostic Guidelines, and a Diagnostic Interactive Tool which can be downloaded and kept for use on your computer.

General Practitioner's Diabetes Management Kit
This kit is designed to help GPs and their staff to manage patients with diabetes. You can download:

• Management Goals Sheet for your Patients (PDF)
Diabetes Information and Advice Service for NDSS subagents
Pharmacists and pharmacy staff can undertake web-based learning through the Diabetes Information and Advice Service (DIAS).
DIAS helps staff to provide up-to-date and accurate information to customers with diabetes. The website has been re-designed to make learning easier, and includes new downloadable resources.
The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia has awarded one CPE point per module, maximum of five CPE. Participants eligible for CPE points will be awarded a Certificate and the points on completion of the program. Participants not eligible for CPE accreditation will receive the certificate upon completion.
Virtual Medical Centre
In association with Diabetes Australia-NSW, the Virtual Medical Centre has developed new Diabetes Modules for Virtual Nursing Education (PDF). These are:
• Introduction to Diabetes (4 Units)
• Management of Diabetes (10 Units)
• Acute complications of Diabetes (3 Units)
• Chronic complications of Diabetes (3 Units)
• Other treatment options (2 Units)
