Support
Diabetes Australia-NSW provides a network of Branches and Support Groups across NSW to provide help and encouragement for people living with and at risk of diabetes. Diabetes Australia-NSW’s network of Branches and Support Groups provides support to people living with diabetes right where they live. This is a valuable benefit of Diabetes Australia-NSW membership.
Branches and Support Groups can help by:
Providing support for people with diabetes and their families.
Holding regular meetings that allow members to hear from guest speakers on a range of issues relating to diabetes including the latest management techniques, research studies, equipment and products for people with diabetes, information on complications and the newest lifestyle ideas and dietary information.
Supporting Parent Support Networks and Young People's Groups (for those aged 18 to 40 years).
Read about what some of our Support Groups have done at Support Network Stories.
To find your nearest Support Group, call 1300 136 588 or download our Support Network Guide.
Advocacy
One of our prime roles is to advocate on behalf of all people with diabetes and their families.
If you have any questions or need help in dealing with legal matters, workplace problems or other issues of discrimination, please contact us on 1300 136 588.
When required, we refer to the Anti-Discrimination Board and offer education to the workplace.
Diabetes Australia-NSW lobbies government and other bodies on behalf of people with diabetes. We have added our support to a number of projects including the correction of health professional staff shortages and health professional training issues under our Being Heard campaign.
For School Students
For students, parents and teachers experiencing problems at school, the Diabetes kidsandteens Careline is available for advice from our paediatric diabetes educators. Please call 1300 136 588.
